Zero Zone Applications
Residential Developments
Apartment blocks, gated communities
Residential buildings, especially those with a communal element and shared spaces such as apartment blocks, are excellent candidates for a zero pollution zone. Not only do the physical attributes of contained buildings lend themselves well to controlled air quality, the potential benefits (given the proportion of our lives spent at home) are perhaps the most compelling of all. Air circulation and filtration methods can reduce airborne contaminants to a very high degree, providing direct improvements in overall air quality, but also tangible benefits for allergy and asthma sufferers.
Major/public institutions
Schools, universities, hospitals, airports, sports arenas
Air quality in large contained areas open to the public is cause for specific concern, especially those where the density of people in those zones is high. The challenge is two-fold: airborne contaminants in such zones have the capacity to harm large volumes of people in a short period of time and, as Covid-19 has shown us, the transmissibility of airborne diseases spikes in places where ‘social distancing’ is not truly feasible.
Retail settings
Shopping malls, outlet centres, department stores
The demand for online shopping and the impact of coronavirus lockdowns places retail environments in a challenging position all round. Shoppers are now acutely aware of airborne transmission of viruses, and will require reassurance to return to shopping malls and outlets in the way they did pre-Covid. Continuous air quality testing, treatment and monitoring will contribute an important part of providing that reassurance – including the ability for malls to display live air quality test results.
Office, commercial & industrial
Businesses, office blocks, industrial estates, beauty salons
Commercial buildings are clearly the permanent workplace for a large number of people, and will often have the additional challenge of being a localised generator of air quality issues due to the use of industrial processes and chemicals. Employers have a variety of specific and general responsibilities for the health, safety and wellbeing of their employees and visitors, and implementing robust air quality monitoring and management solutions can form a large part of discharging those responsibilities.
Vehicles & Public Transportation
Fleet vehicles, taxis, buses, trains, subways
Vehicles can represent one of the clearest air quality risk environments, in that they are typically a small contained environment that, itself, creates harmful pollution and particulate matter. Affordable, mobile air quality monitoring and treatment units are already being installed in fleets across the UK and Europe, and specialist installations are now available at a per-seat level on trains and subway carriages.
